Wedding Shower Cupcakes

Rainy Day Cakes:
cupcake
- noun
1. a small cake, a delicious treat, fun to bake, more fun to decorate, frosted with a swirl, and one never seems to be quite enough.

I love baking cupcakes, and on some days I love them even more than I love decorating cakes.  There is something about them that is exceedingly lovable, decorate-able, and downright eat-able.  Because baking and decorating cupcakes doesn't take as much time as a cake does, cupcakes are my go to dessert for family events, birthdays, and other celebrations.  Take Megan's wedding shower for example:

Megan got married back in the spring of 2010, and had a big Pampered Chef shower.  There was an abundance of delicious snacks, and I was so glad to be able to add these cupcakes to the already generous spread.  Half of these were Vanilla Chocolate Chip with a vanilla buttercream, and the other half were Orange cupcakes with vanilla.  You can't really tell in these photos, but the buttercream was two shades of purple together, frosted to look like a rose on top of the cupcake.  To add an extra little touch, I added a little heart made from white fondant.

Orange on the left, Vanilla Chocolate Chip on the right.

Lauren and Brett got married just a couple of months later, in the beginning of summer.  Lauren got to have a Tupperware shower, and the hosts asked if I could bring some cupcakes for the party.  It was the first Tupperware party that I had ever been to, and wow, I never knew before that there could be so many different kinds of containers!  It was very eye opening as to just how creative and inventive Tupperware can get.  But, I digress.  Back to cupcakes:

For Lauren's shower, I made three different flavours.  Vanilla Chocolate Chip again, Orange too, and White Chocolate Raspberry, which is a raspberry cupcake with white chocolate chunks mixed in.  I did the classic rose swirl, with little fondant roses on top, and then dressed them up with the handmade cupcake wrappers.  The wrappers can be time consuming to make, but I feel like they can really add a nice flair to the cupcakes.  Plus as a bonus, they're a great way of telling the different flavours apart!
