In Which They Start To Get Cute

The cakes, I mean.  The cakes get cute.

When I look at photos of my cakes altogether in chronological order, this is the point where I start to find my cakes cute.  This is the point where I start to feel a little bit more proud of my cakes and start to see my skills come together a little bit more.

This Hello Kitty cake was made for a coworker I had at the time, and I am pretty sure he just wanted me to make it so that he could give it to the girl he liked.  I don't remember what the outcome was, but I know that if a boy I liked brought me a Hello Kitty cake, I'd be pretty pleased.  This is classified as a 2D cake, and it was carved from a sheet cake that was originally 9x12 inches.  It was a red velvet cake, with a raspberry cream cheese icing.  As I type the words raspberry cream cheese icing, I drool a little.  Anyone else?

When I first started making cakes, one of my original supporters was my friend John (of the joint birthday WoW cake).  He was the first to suggest that I should get my own cake business, and he wanted it to be called Mmm Tasty.  If I do open my own business one day, I'll stick with Rainy Day Cakes... but thanks for the enthusiasm John!  This cake was a birthday cake for his mom, and John's only requirement was that it be purple.  This is one of the first times I made a vanilla chocolate chip cake.  I'm sure I'll talk a lot more about the flavour in the future, as it is still one of my favourites!

No, you're not seeing double.  This is indeed another Hello Kitty cake.  There are some subtle differences though, if you want to compare.  Go ahead, look between the two and we'll play a quick game of Spot the Difference.  Ready?  Go!  ...  How many did you find?  I'll give you the obvious point for the Happy Birthday Michi.  You'll also notice that this newer Hello Kitty has three whiskers on her right cheek instead of just two.  If you looked crazy closely, there's also no gapping in this Hello Kitty's tank top or pant leg.  I'm probably the only one who notices that though.  Inner critic being harsh and all.  Oh, and this cake was another vanilla chocolate chip too!

These two matching cakes were for another one of my coworkers and her best friend, because they shared the same birthday.  The symbol on the left means friendship and the one on the right means love.  And love makes sense, because I just love these little cakes!  This was the first time that I made cakes that were only 6 inches big, and they stole my heart. They're just such an adorable size, you feel like you can hug them and squeeze them ... or just eat the entire thing in one sitting.  Which I promise, I've never done.  Honest.

No really, I haven't!  Why are you all looking at me through the Internet like that?
