Flowers, Spider-Man, and Apple

Now that the winter is finally starting to thaw here (hopefully for good this time, knock on wood!), I thought this would be a great time to take a look at this bright birthday cake.  This was another cake to help celebrate office birthdays, and the only requirements for this cake was that it should have flowers, and should be bright.  I'm two for two on this one, because the colours popped so well - the blue fondant and the different coloured flowers.  I was really pleased with how this one turned out: simple, bright, and fun! The inside was vanilla chocolate chip cake with an Oreo buttercream, so just enough chocolate to satisfy the sweet tooth.

Before that birthday cake though, I got to do a cake for my friend Brett's bachelor party.  (You can check out his bride Lauren's wedding shower cake from a few weeks before here)  Brett's fully knowledgeable on pretty much any comic book character, but his favourite is Spider-Man.  So I grabbed a Spider-Man figurine, and had him hanging out on his web high above the city buildings.  In retrospect, I kind of wish that I had double stacked this cake to 8 inches high, just so the buildings could be even taller.  Oh well, I know for the next time the need for a Spider-Man cake arises.

The boys all enjoyed this chocolate cake with peanut buttercream.  I seem to remember hearing something about Brett getting dressed up in a superhero costume for the majority of his bachelor party.  Boys.

Spider-Man, Spider-Man, goes wherever the cake will go

The next cake I got to do was for Jill, and the nerdiness of this cake was pretty much all her genius.  Both her and her guy are cut from the same geeky cloth, and do share a love of Apple.  She asked me to make them an Apple logo anniversary cake, and my computer science husband wrote out some coding to write on the cake.  I don't really know what it means, but husband told me that it was legitimate coding, which is pretty nifty.  The important part was that it looked cool, and was a sweet present from Jill to other half.  Chocolate orange cake with classic chocolate buttercream.

Happy anniversary!
